School Hours
School Office: 7:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
During the school office hours, parents and visitors can get assistance from office staff either by telephone or in person.
Student Arrival: NO EARLIER than 7:20 a.m.
Students cannot arrive to school before 7:20 a.m., as there is no adult supervision for your child prior to that time. Your child arriving to school prior to 7:20 a.m. jeopardizes their safety.
Breakfast: 7:20 a.m. - 7:40 a.m.
Any students who arrive after 7:40a.m. will NOT be served a school breakfast in order to avoid a classroom disruptions.
Tardiness: AFTER 7:40 a.m.
School starts at 7:40 a.m. Any student who arrives after 7:40 a.m. is considered tardy and must report immediately to the office and receive a tardy pass. Tardy students will not be accepted into class without a pass from the office.
Student Dismissal: 2:10 p.m.
Early Dismissal: Students WILL NOT be released early from school without the office receiving communication and consent from a parent IN ADVANCE. Also, STUDENTS WILL NOT BE DISMISSED EARLY from school after 1:30 p.m. After 1:30p.m., PARENTS MUST WAIT OUTSIDE until students are dismissed.
Late Pick-up: After 2:20 p.m., ALL students MUST be signed out by a parent or other designee.
Bookbag Policy

Dear Whitney M. Young Parents, Guardians, Caregivers, and Families,
We continue to hope that you are all having a wonderful summer break with family, friends and loved ones. As we are eagerly anticipating the start of the 2023-2024 school year, we are working towards the start of a successful school year that will encompass a positive and safe culture for the school.
With that being said, we wanted to ensure that we are communicating with you, our families, that for the upcoming school year, no bookbags will be permitted in the classrooms. The expectation is that after scholars enter the school, go through the metal detectors, and have their bookbags inspected, the bookbags are either placed in their lockers or their cubbies.
For scholars in grades sixth through eight, they will have ample time to practice how to get into their lockers during the first two weeks of school. Additionally, lockers are not to be shared amongst scholars as there is plenty for each scholar to have their own assigned to them by their homeroom teacher. Scholars at the middle school grade level will have three minutes to transition between classes in which they can also go to their lockers before the bell rings. As we want to ensure that our scholars make it to classes on time, so they do not miss instruction, it is important that they use the time provided to ensure they know how to open their lockers. On a final note, Mr. McFarland’s office is no longer an option for scholars to place their materials in, as they have their lockers to hold their items instead. Scholars may decorate the inside of their lockers with magnetic stickers, organizational items and small mirrors, but not permanent stickers as this is school property. On a final note, ladies can carry small purses.

As we eagerly anticipate the return of our scholars and families for the upcoming school year, we are actively working behind the scenes to prepare for a successful school year. As mentioned previously, homework will be taking place daily between Monday and Thursday in each academic class. As homework will be pencil and paper-based, this also means that no CMSD technology (i.e., IPADS or chrome books) will be leaving school property at the conclusion of the school day. This also ensures that we will be adequately prepared for all state and school -based assessments which occur virtually. Thank you for your continued support as we work tirelessly to provide a positive academic and cultural environment that is aimed at assisting our families and scholars.

Dear Whitney M. Young Parents and Families,
Hope you all had a fantastic Thanksgiving holiday. As we have seen an increase in the number of scholars bringing their personal tablets (i.e. IPADS or Android) to school, this needs to be addressed as the Personal Cell Phone and Electronic Policy, located on page nine of the Student Rights and Responsibilities: Student Code of Conduct handbook, which is provided to all Cleveland Metropolitan School District families, has specific perimeters regarding this matter.
According to the Cleveland Metropolitan School District’s Student Rights and Responsibilities: Student Code of Conduct handbook, “to maintain a secure and orderly learning environment, students who choose to bring a personal cell phone or electronic device to school will have their phone/device subject to collection and /or storage during the student school day.”
Moving forwards, when scholars enter the school building at the beginning of the day, they are expected to use the Yondr Pouch for their cell phones and place the Yondr Pouch in their lockers, cubbies or bookbags as well as lock their IPADS up in their lockers as well.
In addition, the student handbook also states the following: “any student who fails to follow the school’s cell phone or similar device storage process of who chooses to use a cell hone phone or electronic device during the school day in violation of this policy may be subject to the following:
- Written notification to the student’s parent, guardian, or legal custodian by the building administrator, and/or…
- Confiscation of the cell phone or electronic device until the end of the school day or until the student’s parent, guardian, or legal custodian comes to the school to retrieve the cell phone or electronic device.
Refusal to turn in or store a cellular phone or electronic device to school personnel attempting to collect, store, or confiscate it pursuant to this policy constitutes a Level 2I offense. Repeated or chronic violations of the cell phone and electronic device acceptable use policy constitutes a 2Q offense.
Thank you for your attention to this matter so that we can ensure our school is focused on providing rigorous lessons in which the culture allows scholars to focus on not only learning the material but retaining it for the betterment of their future.
